How I Work

The psychodynamic approach I use has a proven track record of effectiveness for a wide range of issues, with substantial evidence to support it as an effective intervention. We will review the work regularly to ensure your satisfaction with the progress.

In my practice, I offer both time-limited and open-ended therapy. During the initial appointment, you will have the opportunity to explore whether either of these options is right for you.

I value individual differences, and I believe everyone has the potential for growth and change. I will help you to explore how the past may have shaped the present, making sense of your difficulties and gently challenging you when the time is right. I have helped many people, from the young to the old, improve their emotional well-being and achieve a more fulfilling life. Please see more about the way I work here.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will therapy last?

The answer to that depends on what you are looking for. For some people, short term therapy, around 8 sessions can be very effective, particularly when there is a specific issue that can be addressed in a limited space of time.

Many other people feel that eight sessions of counselling isn’t enough time to explore things in depth. Often in this case they choose to continue open ended counselling. Through open ended therapy, we will look at how the past can shape the present.

We can discuss your needs in an initial session and go at a pace that suits you.

Will counselling/psychotherapy work for me?

The psychodynamic approach that I use has a proven track record of being effective for any number of issues; there is a huge evidence base to support it as an intervention.

We will review the work regularly to make sure that you are happy with the progress.

What will happen in an initial meeting?

Our initial meeting is not an obligation to begin counselling with me. It will be an opportunity to discuss what you are looking for in therapy, and for us to assess if this will be right for you.

It is a chance for you to ask me any questions, and to talk through practicalities like suitable times and the ongoing fee. It should help you decide if you think you are going to feel comfortable working with me.

Fees are £65 per session. If you have questions or would like to know more before deciding to meet, you are welcome to call me on 0781 0817829.

How long are the sessions and what happens during holidays or if I can't make it?

Each session lasts for 50 minutes. You won't pay for sessions when I take breaks, which are usually at Christmas, Easter and in the summer.

If you can't make a session and we can't arrange a suitable alternative day/time (with at least 48 hours of advance notice), in common with most therapists, I charge for missed sessions because the regular time slot is kept just for you. The exceptions to this are two sessions per calendar year for holidays, etc.

Do you work with neurodiversity?

I have many years of experience in working in education with neurodiversity, including conditions such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia. I also work with adolescents who may be experiencing a range of difficulties.

It can be difficult taking the first step to accepting help through therapy, I will go at your pace; with understanding of some of the difficulties you may have faced.

Why choose me?

I helped may people from a variety of different backgrounds and ages to make sense of their feelings and go on to feel happier and more fulfilled. I will tailor my approach to suit your needs, supporting you but also gently challenging you, helping you to break any unhelpful patterns that may be holding you back.
